Writing for Children

Writing Kids Pascale Duguay

Surprises ~ Discoveries ~ Giggles

I first discovered children’s books and magazines as a kid, and they followed me into adulthood as I began working in the children’s department of a public library. I then moved on to become a children’s bookseller and later returned to the library world where I am now working with high school students.

Like many writers, the urge to write my own stories crept up on me after my son was born. Motherhood allowed me to connect with words in a new and marvellous way as we read and reread huge quantities of children’s books in all shapes, textures, and sizes.

I gave my urge complete freedom as I wrote, took classes, and learned everything I could on the craft and business of writing. It took two years before I finally reached my goal of being published. A couple of decades later, I can still say that every acceptance feels as special as the first.

Here are some of the publications where my work for and about children has sold so far:

  • Capstone
